Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Grattan, a retailer that sells directly through catalogues, is to cut 1,000 jobs. The firm employs 3,800 staff; 2,200 in Bradford, 600 in Sheffield, 500 in Peterborough, 100 in London and 400 in retail outlets. As of 18 January 2009, it is not known how many jobs will be lost at each site, or when these job losses will occur. The firm is attempting to cut costs by reducing its staffing levels.
