Barclays bank has announced that it is to cut 408 jobs at sites in Cheshire, Northampton and London. The jobs are based in the company’s IT support function, and 158 permanent and 250 contract staff will be affected. The company is cutting the jobs in order to cut costs by reducing duplication. The company employs 150,000 people worldwide, but it is not known how many are employed in IT support at these three sites. As of 11 January 2009, it has not been announced when these jobs will be cut.
