Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Komatsu forest is forced to give notice to another 47 employees due to declining orders. This is the third notice from Komatsu since August. The first one affected 60 employees and was announced in August while the second was announced in November and affected 90 employees which together with the latest dismissal makes a total of 197 redundant employees.
According to the Union of Metalworkers (IF Metall), the notices are due to the current financial situation and the weakening market, however it was not expected that such a large number of employees would be concerned.
Komatsu Forest is a manufacturer of Valmet forest machines and operates in the area of mechanized logging. Komatsu forest is owned by the Japanese Komatsu Group which has over 30,000 employees in the world.
