Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Due to decreasing market demand for their services, Dometic announced the lay off of 70 additional employees to their previous notice of 143 dismissals. Because of a large stock of refrigerators, Dometic will manage to provide their customers throughout the spring of 2009 without any workers in that particular business area. The 140 redundant employees from the first notice are expected to leave the company on 4 January 2009 and the 70 are expected to leave the company on 1 April 2009. Both notices concern the site in Motala. The remaining staff at Dometic works in other areas such as the sales offices and they will therefore not be affected by the notice. As seen in the description below, Dometic operates in a very wide range of areas all connected to leisure products for caravans, motor trucks etc.
Dometic Group is a customer driven provider of leisure products for the caravan, motor home, automotive, truck and marine markets. They supply the industry and after market with air conditioners, refrigerators, awnings, cookers, sanitation systems, lighting, mobile power equipments, windows, doors and other equipment that makes leisure life more comfortable away from home. The site in Motala mainly produces, sells and delivers refrigerators for caravans and motor homes etc.
