Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Due to a decrease in orders, the doors' manufacturer Swedoor, recently renamed Jeld-Wen, which is part of the Japanese group JELD-WEN Door Solutions, needs to lay off 275 employees. The company recently implemented a savings' plan including staff cuttings, but the notice is also due to the weakening market for house-building. The job cuttings are expected to be carried out in the first half of 2009. Negotiations with the trade unions were over in mid-December.
Swedoor is one of the largest suppliers of doors and door solutions in Sweden. They have approximately 275 employees at the two sites of Åstorp in Skåne and Forserum in Jönköping.
