Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Škoda Auto, the Czech car manufacturer, has announced up to 4,000 jobs cuts among temporary agency workers. This is due to a decline in customer orders facing the global financial crisis. 1,500 workers are reported to have already left the company. As of December 2008, there is no information on when the further 2,500 job cuts will be implemented by.
Škoda auto currently employs about 19,500 permanent workers. The company has recently launched output limitation resulting in the fact that one third of employees will have only a four-day workweek.
