Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Sony España has announced that it will file a Layoff Plan which will involve reducing the payroll by 275 workers at its centre in Viladecavalls (Barcelona), which produces LCD televisions. The reduction amounts to 23% of the payroll. In a communiqué, the company reported that the plan is being presented after 5 months of negotiations with the unions without reaching agreement on the voluntary feasibility plan which would assure the future of the plant where 1,300 employees work. Sony has also decided to apply a clause of non-application of the salary increase of the Metal Sector Agreement of the province of Barcelona. This will result in the salaries of all workers being frozen.
