Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 6 October 2008, the Hewlet Packard group announced that it will scrap 560 jobs in the Netherlands. The restructuring is part of a worldwide process due to the takover of Electronic Data Systems (EDS). Jobs will be cut at both EDS and Hewlet Packard NL. Forced dismissals seem unavoidable. HP NL employees are covered by a social plan, their colleagues at EDS are not.
