Description
Sun Microsystems, a multinational manufacturer and vendor of computers, is to cut about 140 jobs at its West Lothian base in Linlithgow. The firm has decided to transfer manufacturing from the Scottish base to the state of Oregon, in the US by May 2009. The cuts amount to 15-17% of the workforce and the company committed to assist the affected employees to 'find alternative opportunities' in the months to come. However, as of December 2008 there is no information on when exactly the job losses will commence or whether the company will proceed with direct dismissals or voluntary redundancies.
