Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The American producer of mobile phones, Motorola, is to close its research and development (R&D) centre in Aalborg with the loss of 260 jobs. All redundant workers are engineers.
Motorola employs 650 people in Denmark mainly working at the headquarters in Glostrup, close to Copenhagen. Experts in the sector regret the closure of the R&D centre in Aalborg, because it has been an important contributor to the knowledge society in Denmark.
During the last months Motorola has contacted 100 companies with a view to selling the company, but with no success.
At the beginning of November 2008, Motorola announced the loss of 3,000 jobs worldwide, mainly affecting Germany, UK and France.
