Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Michelin, the French tyre manufacturer, is to relocate 400 employees from its plant located at Turin to its plant located at Cuneo.
The reorganisation plan announced by the company at the end of September 2008 involved the closure of the Turin plant, with the loss of 700 jobs. After some meetings with the trade unions and the local authorities, the company has announced a new reorganisation plan that envisages the relocation of 400 workers (out of 700) to the Michelin plant located at Cuneo. The Michelin plant located at Turin will reduce its production and will employ 300 workers. The trade unions have expressed satisfaction with the agreement.
Michelin has also announced the 2009-2013 business plan that envisages new investments on the Cuneo plant which produces high-quality tyres. In Italy, Michelin has four industrial sites and around 5,000 employees.
