Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Sony Group has announced a broad restructuring plan resulting in the loss of 16,000 jobs worldwide in order to tackle the current global economic crisis.
The plan envisages an investments’ reduction and the closure of several industrial sites (10% of the total) with the loss of 16,000 jobs. 8,000 redundant workers are employed on an open-ended contracts and the remainder 8,000 are employed on temporary contracts. The company is expected to announce the sites that will be affected by the plan in the next days.
With 160,000 employees worldwide, the Sony Group operates in the electronics, game, entertainment, and financial services sectors.
