Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Lohr Industrie, the French manufacturer of car transporter trailers and of trains and rolling stock , has announced plans to axe the jobs of 100 of its 1,200 employees in Duppigheim in east of France (Bas-Rhin) in response to a sharp fall in order numbers. The decision follows uncertainty about the future and the risks that some contracts were not signed. The company could also be forced to make a further 300 job cuts if it fails to secure a large order by the end of the year.
CEO Robert Lohr said the company will implement temporary closures in an attempt to combat the impact of declining activity, and has asked that senior managers take a pay cut of 10 per cent.
In 2007, Lohr Industrie had announced a business expansion plan.
