GlaxoSmithKline, a pharmaceutical company, is to cut 200 jobs from its factory in County Durham. The company will reduce the workforce at the plant from 950 to 750 over the next 18 months. The company stated that the reduction was not due to the current financial conditions, but because of the recent expiration of the patent on its anti-nausea drug Zofran, which is made at the factory, and competitors are now making their own version of the drug.
