Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
SpeedFerries, a company which operated ferry services from Dover to Boulogne, is to be wound up with the loss of 100 jobs. The company had gone into administration in early November 2008, but no buyer has been found. According to the BBC, A statement from the administrator, Ernst & Young, stated that ‘The majority of employees were today made redundant and the joint administrators will now look to wind down the business accordingly.’ As of 30 November 2008, it is not known when the remaining positions will be lost and the company closed.
