Golden Lady, a leading company in women’s hosiery market, is to close its plant at Valdobbiadene, in the province of Treviso, with the loss of 142 jobs. According to the company, the closure is mainly due to the economic crisis and the need to reduce operative costs.
The trade unions planned a meeting with the company and the local authorities in order to find adequate measures to cope with the economic crisis which is affecting the textile sector and, in particular, a number of manufacturing companies located in the Veneto region. As of November 2008, there is no information on the outcomes of negotiations between trade unions, management and local authorities.
Golden Lady was founded in 1967 in Castiglione delle Stiviere (province of Mantua) and nowadays it is a leading company in both Italian and international women’s hosiery market. In Italy, it has 10 plants and around 3,500 employees.
