Description
Volvo Trucks, a truck manufacturer, is to lay off 400 employees at two of its sites in Sweden. 250 employees at the Gothenburg site and 150 employees at Unea have been affected. 200 part-time employees are also to be laid off in Ghent, Belgium. The lay offs are a result of the declining automative market, and follow a preceding large number of lay offs in October.
According to Stefan Karlsson at Volvo Trucks corporate communications, the hope is to be able to include the most recent noticecs into the same time period as the ones given a month ago. Thereby the time limit will be the same for both notices (April 2009) and hopefully will be carried out before October. However, negotiations with the trade unions are not yet fully carried out and if it is not possible to merge the two notices, the timeline for this one will be delayed by one month: completed in May 2009 and be carried out before the end of November, 2009.
Volvo trucks is one of the largest truck manufacturers in the world.
