Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
La Perla, one of the Italian leading manufacturers of women’s underwear, is to cut 365 jobs. The job cuts will affect its plant located at Bologna. Currently in this plant La Perla has 743 employees. The job cuts are included in the reorganisation plan that the company has announced at the end of October 2008. The trade unions reacted to the company’s decision by going out on strike. Moreover, the unions want to involve the local authorities to tackle the negative social effects due to the company’s decision.
La Perla is a leading manufacturer of women’s underwear and fashion with subsidiaries in Austria, France, Spain, Germany and the United States. It belongs to the private equity JH Partners.
