Description
Leeds-based Tetley brewery owned by the Carlsberg group is to close with the loss of 170 jobs. The closure is attributed to a significant fall in sales and will take effect by 2011. Carlsberg will probably move production of Tetley beer to a different UK site. However, as of November 2008 there is no information on the specific location Tetley beer production will be transferred to. Also, there is no details on whether (or how many) employees would be redeployed either to the other Carlsberg's brewery in Northampton or to its distribution sites. The regional secretary of GMB union said they would seek discussions with management in an attempt to change the company’s decision.
