Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Leyland Trucks, a firm that produces trucks, has announced that it is to cut 251 jobs at its site in Farington in Lancashire. Approximately 1,200 are employed at the site. The job losses will consist of 145 temporary agency workers who are to lose their jobs with immediate effect, 24 office workers who will lose their jobs by the end of 2008, and 92 factory workers who will loss their jobs at an unspecified date. Management at the firm attribute the job losses to the economic downturn in the UK.
