Description
Microsemi, a US-owned multi-national which produces equipment for America's space exploration programme, plans to create 185 new jobs at its Ennis plant in the Mid-West of Ireland. The company's general manager stated that the company will be increasing its workforce by 185 to 400 over the next two years.
The general manager added: "Microsemi Ireland is in the process of negotiating a Phase 2 expansion plan with Microsemi Corporation, California and the IDA in Dublin which includes the addition of 185 people ie will be going from 215 people to 400 people over the next two years."
Globally, Microsemi Corporation employs 1,650 and has manufacturing facilities at four locations in the US, as well as plants in Ireland and Shanghai. The US defence industry is Microsemi Corporation's biggest customer, accounting for 33 per cent of sales. The Ennis-based Irish plant commenced production in 1992, and it specialises in the manufacture of power semiconductors for the global avionics and aerospace markets.
