Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Danfoss, a Denmark-based global producer of compressors and condensing units for refrigerators and light commercial applications, has announced that it is to cut 350 jobs (out of 7,000 in Denmark). As of October 2008, it is unknown the exact number of job losses outside Denmark. The company attributed the restructuring to the global financial crisis. The job losses will be achieved through natural wastage and direct dismissals. However, the number of direct dismissals is not yet known. Danfoss and the local unions will agree a set of measures to help redundant workers to find new jobs or re-train.
As reported, Denmark has applied for assistance from the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF).
