Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Adecco, the Swiss recruitment agency, has announced plans to axe 600 jobs in France by June next year, mainly through voluntary redundancies. The job cuts will take place in two stages: the group aims to make around 400 net job cuts at Adecco France, Adia (its subsidiary) and Adecco Groupe France by March 2009, before making a further 200 redundancies in June at its Adecco France and Adia units. Having suffered the effects of the global economic slowdown, the group also plans to merge its various entities in order to cut costs. The operations in question are expected to cost the group a total of some 35 millions euros.
