Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
AkzoNobel, a multi-national manufacturing corporation active in healthcare products, coatings and chemicals, announced on September 2008 that it is to cut 3,500 jobs worldwide. Around two third of the job losses will be in the UK, due to the takeover in 2007 of ICI. The rest of the jobs losses wil be worldwide (but probably mainly in the US). Forced dismissals are not ruled out. AkzoNobel intends to expand mainly in emerging markets like China and India over the coming years.
