Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
X-Pharma, a pharmaceutical company specialising in sales services, is to close its branch located in Agrate Brianza (in the province of Milan) with the loss of 376 jobs. The workers affected by the closure are sales representatives. According to the company, the closure is mainly due to the sectoral economic crisis that principally affects the sales services. The trade unions and the sectoral employers’ association are trying to involve the national authorities in order to find adequate measures to relaunch the sector.
X-Pharma belongs to the Pharmexx Group, a multinational company founded in Germany in 1999. It is one of the leading contract sales and marketing organisations worldwide, which takes over tasks in the sales, marketing and distribution areas for pharmaceutical companies. The group is represented in 23 countries.
