Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Baker Perkins, a company that operates in the machinery manufacturing sector, has announced that it will cut up to 50 jobs at its site at Paston in Peterborough. 400 people are currently employed at the site, which makes processing equipment for food manufacturers. The company has stated that a consultation process has started with employee representatives in the hope of finding workers who wish to take voluntary redundancy. As of 14 September 2008, no announcement has been made as to when these redundancies will occur.
