Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Embraer, a Brazilian aerospace conglomerate, has announced the creation of 578 jobs with the development of two new industrial units in Évora for the manufacturing of complex airframe structures. The unit producing metallic assemblies will employ 440 people while the other unit manufacturing composite materials will employ another 138. More than 1000 jobs will be created by supplier companies. The choice of the location resulted from a careful evaluation of several factors including potential access to qualified labour, logistical infrastructure and the presence of an aeronautical technological centre. Highly automated manufacturing processes and state-of-the-art technologies will be in use in the new units. The estimated investment is of € 100 million (for the unit producing metallic assemblies) and € 48 million (for the unit producing composites) over the next six years.
