Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
GlaxoSmithKline, a company that operates in the pharmaceutical sector, has announced that it is to cut 55 jobs at its plant in Montrose, Angus. 300 people are currently permanently employed at the site, and another 70 temporary staff will see their roles phased out by the end of the year. The company is cutting the jobs as demand for products made at the factory has not been as high as predicted. As of 3 August 2008 it is not known when workers will be made redundant.
