Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 24 July 2008, MAN announced that its affiliate Neoplan will withdraw from its activities at its site in Pilsting (Bavaria). Currently, Neoplan manufactures coaches in Pilsting. Another company VISEON will take over some of the production at the existing unit but 400 jobs will be lost.
According to the MAN website, the plans envisage that the 200 employees left at the location will be taken over by VISEON by mid 2009 which will in the future build specialised buses and complete special orders for MAN and other customers as well as developing its own products. All employees who will not be retained at the location and do not accept job offers from MAN (mainly at the Munich plant) will receive benefits under the social compensation plan.
