Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Czech vehicle manufacturer Tatra has announced a wide cost-reduction plan resulting in a total of 1,400 job losses at the Kopřivnice plant due to the global financial crisis and the fall in customer orders. The company has already dismissed 500 employees in 2008 and the remaining 900 workers (instead of 320 workers that were previously reported) are leaving the plant by the end of March 2009. It was reported that the total number of staff employed at the plant before the restructuring was approximately 4,400.
