Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The management board of Ruch, Poland's largest distributor of newspapers and periodicals, has approved an employment restructuring plan which envisages 800 redundancies by the end of September 2008. Ruch currently employs 5,395 persons.
According to information from 29 August 2008, Ruch will downsize its employment by fewer jobs then originally planned – 570 workers will be made redundant, rather than 800. The company has adopted “Rules for Group Redundancies” as part of its restructuring plan, and it will begin serving notices of termination on 25 September 2008. The redundancies process will continue until the end of 2008.
