Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The wool manufacturer Ogres Jarns has suspended manufacturing and dismissed all 325 workers. Einars Vaivods, the member of the board of the enterprise said to news agencies that rising energy prices has had a catastrophic effect on costs of production. The company awaits the announcement of new gas tariffs (planned on 1 September 2008) before making further decisions on whether manufacturing activity can be recommenced.
