Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
US automotive parts company Delphi Corporation will create 150 new jobs by the end of 2008 by offshoring its production from two of the company’s factories in Western Europe to its plant in Szombathely. The company will hire former employees of a local shoe factory that closed down several years ago. Delphi Hungary, which currently employs 800, manufactures steering wheels and electronic systems for windows, seats and blinkers at its Electronics and Safety division. Delphi Hungary has also plans to extend its Electronics and Safety division by renting additional space. Delphi’s Hungarian unit will start supplying steering wheels to Volkswagen, Smart, SEAT, Audi and Mitsubishi, among others, in early 2009.
