Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
After the acquisition in 2005 by Gas de France, Distrigaz Sud dismissed 3,000 employees and its workforce decreased from 10,800 in 2005 to 7,800 in 2008. On 1 July 2008, Distrigaz Sud has announced continuation of its restructuring programme and the loss of another 1,000 jobs through voluntary redundancies. The company representatives did not provide at that date the details of redundancy payments to employees leaving the company.
On 14 August the company announced that around 17 million euros were paid to 1,645 employees who opted for voluntary redundancies packages initiated on June 2008.
The employees who opted for this programme got 7-18 gross basic monthly salaries plus 8,000 lei in compensation and support for a potential career change and the possibility to take part in training programmes.
