Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Liko, manufacturer of wood products in Vrhnika near Ljubljana, will cut 385 out of 500 jobs. The company, which produces doors, chairs, tables, childrens furniture, etc., is composed of three parts: Liko Vrata (Liko Doors), Liko Pohištvo (Liko Furniture) and Liko Modus. The latter employs handicapped people. The supervisory board decided that because of long-lasting losses and no possibility to improve the situation Liko Pohištvo and Liko Modus will be liquidated. The only part which is profitable and is to remain operational is Liko Vrata, which produces doors. The company is 97% owned by Ampelius Holding from Cyprus, which belongs to a group of companies owned by Slovenian businessman Igor Lah.
