Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
GE Aviation, an aerospace engineering company, has announced that it plans to close its site in Cheltenham with the loss of 110 jobs. The job losses were blamed on increased competition, and the work will be relocated to the companies other centres. The majority of the work will be relocated to Wolverhampton and the Isle of Man but some activities will be relocated to China. The company promised to assist its staff in finding alternative employment locally or redeploying those affected. The company has begun a 90 day consultation period with the Union.
