Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
IBI, manufacturer of Jacquard fabric in Kranj, is to launch a liquidation procedure with the loss of 137 jobs. The company, which manufactures jacquard mattress ticking, finishes and high-tech fibres, mattress covers, decorative fabrics, bed linen, tablecloth, etc., has recorded losses for several years and since June 2008 uses only half of its production facilities four days a week. The supervisory board who decided on liquidating the company believes that it is the best way to settle the outstanding debts to the creditors and for the shareholders to get some money. At the moment, IBI employs 137 employees although in February it employed 178.
