Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
According to German FAZ, AMD announced that it is to cut 10% of its global workforce of 16,800 and to significantly change its system of production.
AMD is a California-based global supplier of integrated circuits for the personal and networked computer and communications markets with manufacturing facilities in the United States, Europe, Japan, and Asia.
FAZ says, market leader Intel is putting AMD under pressure. As of June 2008, there is no information on when the job losses will be implemented.
The company says that there will be no direct dismissals at the German plant in Dresden (2800 workers). Instead fixed-term contracts will be terminated.
