Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Hankook, a Korean multinational tyre manufacturer, plans to create 300 new jobs by doubling capacity of its plant in Dunaújváros (approximately 70 kilometres from the Hungarian capital city of Budapest). Daily capacity is expected to increase from 15,000 to 31,000 tyres by 2010. To achieve this objective, the area of the plant in Dunaújváros will be expanded by 40%. Construction work will start in June 2008 and end in 2009. Hankook has already applied for the necessary environmental licenses for the expansion. The Hungarian site was established in 2007, with manufacturing operations having begun at the end of June 2007 with a workforce of 750 staff.
