Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Alutec, the Rzecz-based producer of aluminum elements and casts (for use, among other applications, in the automobile industry) plans to make 100 people redundant, out of its 300 employed workforce because it has not secured the hoped-for EU subsidies towards its development. The company borrowed heavily to purchase modern production hardware, and it had planned to cover the attendant costs with EU funds; these funds, however, were withheld because the company used funds contrary to their stated purpose.
