Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
DeaPrinting, a firm that operates in the publishing sector, has announced that it is to cut 130 jobs at its two sites in Italy. 105 jobs (out of 298) will be lost at the lithographic printing plant located in Novara, while 25 jobs (out of 100) will be lost at the bookbinding plant located in Gravellona Toce, in the province of Verbania. The firm attributes the decision to the need to reduce its operative costs in the face of increasing global competition. Local trade unions have responded to the company’s decision by going out on strike. Deaprinting is specialized in high-quality printing production and its main client is the De Agostini group.
