Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Firstsource, a firm that operates in the call centre sector, has announced that it is to create 800 new jobs in Nothern Ireland. 300 new posts will be created at the firm's existing site in Londonderry, whilst 500 new jobs will be created at a location that the firm is yet to decide upon. 530 are currently employed at the firm's site in Londonderry. Firstsource has received 6.7 million GBP from Invest Northern Ireland, a governmental body that promotes and supports investment in Northern Ireland, to support the new investment. Nigel Dodds, Economy Minister for Northern Ireland, stated that the Northern Irish economy was likely to gain 10 million GBP annually in salaries from the new investment.
