Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Butler and Tanner Printers Ltd, a firm that operates in the printing and publishing sector, has announced that it is to close its site in Frome in Somerset with the loss of 287 jobs. The job losses will take immediate effect from 26th April 2008. The announcement of the closure of the site follows negotiations between the Unite trade union and management at Butler and Tanner that were taking place at the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (ACAS) in Bristol.
On 17 July 2008 it was announced that Butler and Tanner had been bought by Felix Dennis. The new company will be named Butler, Tanner and Dennis, and 90 of the former staff of Butler and Tanner will be re-employed.
