Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Ecomold, a car components manufacturer, has announced that it is to close its sites in Dunstable in Bedfordshire and Southend in Essex with the loss of 384 jobs. The site in Dunstable will close in August 2008 with the loss of 203 jobs, whilst the site in Southend will close in September 2008 with the loss of 181 jobs. The company entered administration in November 2007, however administrator KPMG has been unable to find a buyer for the firm. A spokesperson from KPMG stated that ‘it is disappointing that we have been unable to find a buyer for the remaining operations, however we are still seeking offers.’
