Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Goodyear Dunlop, the American manufacturer of tyres and rubber products has announced a restructuring plan that is to cut 402 jobs at its production plant in the French city of Amiens (Nord). This announcement followed the end of the negotiations between e management and e unions : for months the management tried to reorganise the shift system : 4x8 (four teams instead of five would have to work alternatively during 5 days). It has also foreseen to invest 52 millions euros in the site between 2008 and 2011, and to cut 500 jobs without direct dismissals.
The plan was proposed to the two sites in Amiens (Nord and Sud), but only the latter accepted it. As a consequence, the management will present the details of the restructuring the on May 13th.
