Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Fiat, one of the main European car manufacturers, is to create 250 new jobs at its site located at Termini Imerese, in the province of Palermo. The company has announced a new business plan for the Termini Imerese plant that envisages new investments, an increase in production and the creation of 250 new jobs by the beginning of 2010. The hiring is included in the 2007-2010 business expansion plan, aiming to strengthening the industrial structure of the plant. The new employees will be hired with apprenticeship contracts. The Fiat Group is the largest industrial enterprise in Italy and one of the main worldwide car-makers. It develops and produces engines, components and means of transport for all forms of mobility for people and goods: from cars to trucks, to agricultural tractors, marine engines, aeronautical engines and space launchers. Since 2003, Fiat redefined its core business area by focusing its manufacturing and service activities on the automotive sector. Fiat Group Automobiles has around 50,000 employees in the world, and around 30,000 are employed in Italy. Fiat produces several car models at the Termini Imerese plant and employs around 2,000.
