Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Kli Logatec, manufacturer of windows, doors, chairs and tables, will be liquidated with a loss of between 100 and 280 jobs at the present location: (i) the company will retain in full the window division which employs 80 people, (ii) the chair manufacturing division which employs 100 people will be moved to another location in Bač, which is relatively close (app. 20 km) to the existing one. It is unclear how many people will be employed at the new location; (iii) the future of the doors’ division which employs 200 is not yet clear. It is expected a certain number of workers will be employed in the nearby industrial zone and in similar companies in the region. On 21 April 2008 the shareholders assembly of Kli Logatec decided to liquidate the company due to the past year’s decrease of up to 30% in sales and losses amounting to 2 million euros.
