Description
The management of Le Monde, the French Newspaper has announced a restructuring plan that will result on the one hand in the loss of 130 jobs, and on the other hand in the closure of the loss-making subsidiaries, Fleurus Presse, the Editions de l'Etoile, the monthly Danser and the religious-specialized network of bookstores La Procure.
The job losses include direct dismissals. The editorial staff is the main group affected.
The management of the group thus aims to save a minimum of 15 million-euros up till 2010 to balance the finances of the newspaper, which had debts of 150 millions-euros in 2007.
During a general assembly, the Unions voted for a 24h-strike on the 14. April. This is only the third such threat in the history of the newspaper (though the two first were suspended).
