On Friday 19.09.2008 Siemens Salonica announced its closing down till the end of October. According to the source, 270 people are about to lose their jobs.
On Tuesday 26.02.2008, German conglomerate Siemens unveiled an extensive restructuring plan of its communications unit that would put thousands of jobs allover Europe at risk.
Especially for Greece, Siemens has not excluded the possibility of complete close down the Greek plant in Salonica that employs 270 people.
The goal, according to the financial director, is to abandon production of telephones, terminals, modems and telecommunications cabling (a loss-making division according to the source) to focus on the supply of software and services.
