Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
BMW, one of the leading world car makers, has announced that it is to cut 8,100 jobs. The job cuts should mainly affect the company’s plants located in Germany (the plan envisages 7,500 job cuts in the German BMW plants). The company has announced this reorganisation plan in order to increase the productivity of its plants and, consequently, to improve the margins of profit.
BMW group, with its three brands, BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, is one of the leading world car makers. It has 106,575 employees in the world of whom 98,505 work in the car division. As of February 2008, there is no information on when the job cuts will be implemented by.
